Hybrigenics is the first spin-off of the famous Institut Pasteur de Paris, and was founded in 1998 on its core patented ULTImate Y2H™ technology, a reliable and optimized version of the yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) system that enables researchers to discover novel protein interactions in given cell types, tissues or organisms. This screening platform was automated and industrialized to take into account internal needs for large Protein Interaction Maps (PIMs). To ensure screening management, quality control, traceability, and storage of materials, data and processes, a proprietary Laboratory Information Management System was developed. It is interfaced with the robots and participates actively in our ISO 9001 certification worldwide. Sophisticated bioinformatics tools were further developed internally to analyze the tremendous amount of protein interaction data that was produced. These tools include the PIMRider® software, a tool dedicated to the visualization and analysis of large protein interaction maps.
Based on novel targets identified with its ULTImate Y2H platform Hybrigenics started its own drug discovery programs in 2002. Internal research programs are focused on proteins involved in ubiquitin specific protein degradation and causal to cancer genesis and development. To validate targets and start the early phases of drug development, a high-throughput chemical screening platform was set up in 2005 with Hybrigenics’ highly diverse and natural compound libraries. Numerous protein interactions as well as enzymes have since then been screened in various assay formats to identify protein interaction disruptors or enzyme inhibitors with success.
